Midterm Report Card

With Muhlenberg observing its Fall Break and most teams at or just past the halfway point in their seasons, we asked athletes to grade their team’s performance to date.

Men’s Soccer: “optimistic” C

Muhlenberg enters the final part of the season with a 9-6 record, 3-2 in the Centennial Conference. All six of the Mules’ losses are to teams that have been ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region this year. The team

has been good at keeping opponents off the scoreboard but has struggled to put balls in the net, resulting in eight 1-0 matches.

“I’d give us a C, but it’s an optimistic C because we’re on our way up,” said senior midfielder Tom Hartey. “I think we’ve been average this season, and I think people are starting to realize that’s not acceptable and that there’s just not enough time left to worry about anything except going out there hard every game. I’m happy to see that.

“If you’re equating it to schoolwork, the final is the most important part. We’ve just got to get to the conference playoffs and do our best. Once we get to that final tournament, whatever happens there is what matters.”

Volleyball Drops Third Straight

The Muhlenberg volleyball team dropped its third straight match, falling to Franklin & Marshall in three games, 30-23, 33-31, 30-27. The Diplomats (21-5, 7-0) are ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Leading the Mules (11-15, 3-3) was freshman Julie Lauro with 19 kills. She now has the second-highest single-season kills total in team history, with 351. The school record is 635.
