A weekly look at what’s going on in the Centennial Conference:

Western Maryland announced on Friday that it is changing its name to McDaniel College, in honor of William Roberts McDaniel, a student, professor, vice president, treasurer, acting president and trustee from the late 1870s until his death in 1942. The school is expected to keep the mascot “Green Terror.”

Western Maryland finished third in the NCAA Regional at Cabrini. The Green Terror, seeded fifth, defeated fourth-seeded Salisbury in its first game, but then dropped its next two to Cabrini and Salisbury. Salisbury rebounded from the opening loss to sweep five games over three days to advance to the finals ... Franklin & Marshall lost to Alvernia in the first round of the ECAC Tournament, 1-0 in nine innings.

Johns Hopkins is the top seed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, which will be held at Boyertown beginning Thursday. The Blue Jays will face sixth seed New Jersey, an at-large selection, in the first game. The rest of the regional field includes Kean, DeSales, Worcester State and Alvernia ... Franklin & Marshall reached the ECAC final before falling to host Penn State-Behrend, 3-1. The Diplomats edged Wilkes, 5-4, in a semifinal game, coming back from a 4-1 deficit with three in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Women’s Lacrosse

Gettysburg lost a 9-8 heartbreaker to Cortland State in an NCAA regional semifinal. Cortland, which went on to lose to New Jersey in the regional final, scored the game-winner with 37 seconds remaining. The Bullets had a free-position shot hit the post with 8 seconds left.

Men’s Tennis

Washington advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals by toppling Swarthmore and Washington & Lee by identical 4-1 scores. The final three rounds will take place at UC Santa Cruz this weekend.
