A weekly look at what’s going on in the Centennial Conference:

Johns Hopkins continued its impressive start by sweeping No. 26 Ithaca on Sunday. The Blue Jays (11-2) are 4-0 against ranked teams ... Franklin & Marshall (5-6) defeated No. 17 Alvernia, and Ursinus (9-5) split with No. 23 Kean ... McDaniel finished 5-3 on its trip to Florida, while Haverford (6-4-1) also has a winning record ... CC play begins this week. Two Saturday doubleheaders match up 2002 playoff teams, as Hopkins travels to Ursinus and Muhlenberg is at F&M.

Just like in baseball, the four 2002 playoff teams are in action at two sites on Saturday: Muhlenberg hosts Gettysburg and Ursinus welcomes McDaniel ... Gettysburg (6-2) entered the week with a six-game winning streak, and Ursinus (8-2), Franklin & Marshall (5-2) and Washington (7-3) also had above-.500 records.

Men’s Lacrosse

Haverford, the next opponent for Muhlenberg, had a rough week, losing to nationally ranked McDaniel (18-3) and Franklin & Marshall (16-2) ... F&M, Gettysburg and Washington (a 19-0 winner against Ursinus) all are 2-0 in CC play. Washington travels to Gettysburg for a matchup of the CC’s top two ranked teams on Saturday.

Women’s Lacrosse

Gettysburg routed Ursinus, 17-6, in a rematch of last year’s CC championship game. The Bullets are 6-0 for the first time in 22 years. No. 16 Ursinus (1-2) also fell to No. 15 Drew, 12-9 ... Haverford (3-4) won the championship of the Seven Sisters Tournament. Swarthmore (3-1) finished fifth in the same tournament and Bryn Mawr (2-2) was seventh.

Sophomore Gregg Burkhart of the Muhlenberg baseball team had a big day, earning Centennial Conference honors and pitching the Mules to their ninth win of the season.

Burkhart was named pitcher of the week by the CC after striking out 13 and

allowing only five hits and one earned run in a 6-5 defeat of Moravian last Tuesday.

In his first start since, Burkhart combined with three pitchers to lead Muhlenberg (9-4) past Misericordia, 6-2. Burkhart hurled the first six innings, allowing an unearned run on seven hits and striking out five.

The Mules led from the start, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Senior Justin Graf led off with a double and went to third on an error. Senior Ben Carr plated Graf with a ground single through the left side. After a bunt single by junior Joel Rush loaded the bases, sophomore C.J. Kessler hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Graf and freshman Ryan Jaxheimer later added sacrifice flies. Muhlenberg also scored twice in the fourth, combining Carr’s second single of the game with stolen bases by Graf and Rush and three Cougar errors.

The Mules have won five of their last six as they head into CC play. Tuesday’s scheduled league opener at Dickinson has been postponed, so Muhlenberg will play its first CC game at home against the Red Devils on Friday.
