Muhlenberg head wrestling coach Tom Schleicher has been selected as a recipient of Tom
Schleicher the 25-year Coaching Award from the NCAA Division III Coaches Association.

The presentation will take place at the Hall of Fame Banquet, held in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Scranton on Feb. 28.

Now in his sixth season at Muhlenberg, Schleicher began his coaching career in 1968 at Robert Goddard Junior High School in Glenn Dale, Md. He also coached scholastically at High Point (Md.), Upper Perkiomen (Pa.) and Emmaus (Pa.), compiling a record of 176-158-3.

Schleicher has a career mark of 54-56 at Muhlenberg and led the Mules to the Centennial Conference dual-meet championship and a school-record 17 wins last year. Nine Muhlenberg wrestlers have qualified for the NCAA Championships the last three years, and one became the first All-American in program history.

The Muhlenberg wrestling team had its eight-match winning streak snapped with a 42-3 loss at King’s. The Monarchs (17-2) are ranked fourth in Division III.

The Mules’ (13-6) lone win came at 174, where senior Andrew Faust scored an escape in the second overtime to score a 2-1 decision. Faust (12-2) has won 10 in a row.

The featured bout of the night came at 149 pounds, where Muhlenberg senior Bill Holsinger, ranked eighth in Division III, took on seventh-ranked Jim Morgan in a contest that matched 2001 NCAA qualifiers. The bout was tied, 5-5, entering the third period, but Morgan scored an escape and a takedown for an 8-5 victory. The loss was Holsinger’s first of the season after 20 wins.
