The Muhlenberg men’s basketball team held host Moravian to 29.8-percent shooting in winning the championship of the Greyhound Rock Classic, 60-53.

The title was the sixth for the Mules in their 12 Greyhound Classic Muhlenberg wins Greyhound Rock Classic appearances and avenged a loss to Moravian in the championship game of last year’s Scotty Wood Tournament.

The Mules (6-5), who came into the game with a defensive field-goal percentage of .462, needed their defense to stay in the game after a sluggish offensive start that saw them score only four points in the first nine minutes. The Greyhounds (7-3) had an 11-4 lead at that point, but Muhlenberg creeped back into the game, finally tying the score at 22 on a layup by senior Anthony Strachan with 2:01 left in the half.

A bucket by sophomore Chase Licata 25 seconds later gave the Mules the lead for good. The held a 25-22 edge at halftime and stayed on top throughout a gripping second half that saw no lead greater than six points until the final minute.

Moravian got to within one point, at 39-38, with 8:33 left, but sophomore Ryan Bonda hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to extend the lead to four. After a Greyhound bucket made it 42-40, Strachan nailed a three from the same spot.

The Mules had a 52-48 lead with under a minute to play when senior Toomey Anderson drained a three-pointer to seal the win.

Strachan finished with 10 points and eight rebounds and was named tournament MVP. Bonda scored a game-high 19 points to earn his second All-Tournament nod of the season.

Licata contributed eight points, four rebounds and three steals, while Strachan’s younger brother, freshman Christopher Strachan, did an outstanding defensive job on the Greyhound guards and ran the point for most of the second half.
