Centennial Conference Champions 1983-1986

Program Overview
Muhlenberg College football is a program on the rise. After spending almost the entire decade of the 1990s near the bottom of the Centennial Conference, the Mules went 6-4 in 1999 for the first winning season in 10 years. They gave conference champion Western Maryland its closest game of the regular season, losing 21-14 on a late touchdown.

The team is characterized by an explosive offense that has averaged more than 400 yards per game in two of the last three seasons. The 1999 squad scored 332 points (the second-most in school history) in 10 games, topped the 40-point mark four times and produced the school’ all-time passing leader. Muhlenberg also had a first-team All-America return specialist.

Optimism for the program’s future abounds as the Mules look to build a first-class winning football family and return to the top of the CC. The team’s slogan is ”Dig In.• Like their mascot, these Mules are stubborn, with an emphasis on hitting, hustling and giveaways and takeaways.

Muhlenberg fielded one of its largest squads ever, with 85 members, in 1999. For those players not at the top of the varsity depth chart, four junior varsity games were played, three against the JV squads of Division I schools Lehigh, Lafayette and Columbia.

Beginning in 1998, Muhlenberg played its home games in a brand new AstroTurf football stadium that is one of the gems of Division III.
